Mega Gallery: AMD Championship 2012

You know the formula: take a Harley motor and bolt it into some improbably arranged chassis. The shinier the better. Bonus points if it looks like it’d either kill you or just not even roll down a hill. No actual info comes with any of these photos (remember, substance is not what custom bike building is about). Tell us which bikes you want to see followed up on and we’ll try and squeeze words out of the manly men that built them. But for now, just enjoy these 207 photos.

If you can’t click into the gallery, try this link: http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2012/08/mega-gallery-amd-championship-2012/?gal=1#/1

Forcing a pair of steering dampers to act as suspension components definitely fits the ‘will kill you’ part, but jesus christ that is an awesome looking fork design. A million points for building something different.

    • Coreyvwc

      Yes and YES!

    • Gene

No kidding. That’s wack enough it’s my new desktop… I’d like to see the rest of the bike, unless I was too blind looking at the gallery.

WTF is up with tire chains this year? I’ve seen a LOT of that. Is that like the new “skinny jeans” style for customs?

It’s interesting to see a couple with Honda engines… gotta take some balls to submit that to a show.

      • Gene

Never mind. It’s a really weird… trike. With a wheelie-something on the back. The guy’s read way too much “Girl Genius”

  • Vincent

That gallery really chokes on a lot of images and isn’t very responsive. I’m a pretty damn good developer if you guys ever have an opening. Just saying.

  • BMW11GS

Which guy thought, “hey skeletons are cool, rib cages are cool, iron maiden is still cool, I am going to make a bike that combines all those things that Tracy with the permed bleached hair and prom queen of ’86 is going to dig hard!” Oh wait never mind after seeing the finished product, I am a believer too. Tracy is one lucky girl.

    Raven sideways guzzi

WoW! A lot of creativity and OCD attention to detail !
Some, not so practical and some I would like to own.

  • noblsht

Some nice bikes scattered among the many pretty metal cartoons. Girls are always nice to see. Mostly, these pictures cause a bubbling up of the old tennis pro quote, ” You can’t be serious!”.

  • Scott-jay

Joe Bartlett’s stained-steel Buell, tell me more.

    Quite a gallery!
Outstanding work abounds, present in details and whole motorcycles.

I like retro machine-punk style, like the sideways Guzzi.

Too many tho’, present a ‘big idea’ with common work & unifying paint comprising rest of machine.
Example: gray color bike with its over-size hub-less rear wheel & faring/swing-arm.

  • mchale2020

The bike with the geezer front fairing, trellis frame, and air cooled twin. What would that be like to ride on a track? I get the engine would make all kinds of crazy power, but how would it handle? Would it be as easy to pick up as any inline four sports bike?

  • richard gozinya

Not all that interesting. Wrenchmonkees, Radical Ducati, Spirit of the Seventies, and Officine Rossopuro do way better work.

  • Peter88

I’d like to hear more from BTR and whoever built that Harley (Buell?) powered supermoto.

And the guys that built the bike whose wheel is featured above.

    Great pictures and nice craftsmanship!

Kneeslider had a good write up on them a few weeks

yeah, but there wasn’t any track time on the BTR at that point because Curt just finished in time for Cannery Row & then Sturgis. He is doing a couple of track days by the end of Sept. at Sears Point and Thunderhill. Ride Apart footage would be very cool.

  • Ax

It should be a requirement that the bikes be ridden to the show by the builders — otherwise it’s just an art show.

    • Glenngineer

This. Some of these look cooler than others, but I’m not into motorcycles you can’t ride/suck to ride…else there just another tribe of OCC bike.

I’m sick of bikes with no front brake(s). Knock it off, already.

  • Coreyvwc

i can appreciate that the builders or “designers” worked hard on these, but so many of them are just plain fucking awful. Who in the hell grants entry to these tasteless pieces of shit?

  • BuellDoc

It may be Art, But I like to see Craftsmanship is still alive..the talent,Time and thought is amazing.
