A lowrider Vespa

This custom Vespa scooter, built by Germany’s Kings of Cruisin, adapts two themes from the car hot rod scene to bikes. With its steel body sanded free of paint, it’s free to develop a patina of rust. And, the rear suspension has been replaced with an airbag, allowing it to ride so low during cruises that its body scrapes along the ground. All that’d be retarded on a ‘Busa, but is totally badass on a Vespa.

This video shows a trial run of airbag inflation during the build. Hopefully it’s not that violent while you’re riding it.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

whats the thing with the Rat Rod world and rust? its not a good thing long term.

I think it depends on the kind of rust. In places like California or the American Southwest, things can develop a thin layer of surface rust that lasts for years or decades without structurally weakening the vehicle itself. I like it, but then again I’m a fan of patina in general.

last photo ftw! so sarcastic compared to the traditional, douchey ‘let me stand next to my machine with my arms crossed and frown’ portraits.

Airbag inflation shouldn’t be violent while riding. It was fine with the rider sitting on it…

It’s all fun and games until you catch a small rut in the road and get thrown off violently.
