KTM 390 Duke: light is right

Dailies, Galleries, Import -

The single best thing about this new KTM 390 Duke? It’s not the 44bhp, 370cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor, the strong styling, the ABS brakes or even the high-spec WP suspension. No, it’s the weight: just 139kg/306lbs (dry). That, plus manufacturing by Bajaj in India should equal a fast, light, fun, easy-to-ride and affordable motorcycle. More like this please.

Update: action video.

    Price, please!

4.995 Euros in Germany. Want to like the bike but this feels a little too premium to me.

Light makes right. If this ends up costing less than or slightly less than the entry-level 600-650cc like the Gladius, Ninja 650, FZ6R, then we will have ourselves a winner.

The RZ350 of the 21st century?

It does. It’s officially 5000 euro, while all those are at least 6000 euro over here.

This has the potential to be a miserly commuter that would cause some liter class riders to double-take.

Too bad — for us US residents — that KTM’s street-phobic dealer network will make this a stillborn.

Canada too. KTM Canada sells the RC8 but not one Duke. *fume*

That’s the “Bigger-is-Better” mentality of America working in the supply and demand analysis. I hate it! Could you imagine this thing around a track?!

  • tbowdre

Awesome, I would buy this! diggin’ the exhaust…. i cant imagine the price will be less than the low spec entry level stuff available now. better suspension and lighter weight = higher price

    • szu

In Poland announced price is lower than Kawasaki 300. Sligthly but still.

  • Jack

Wait, when did KTM buy the rights to the Buell Blast?

    • John

Because nothing screams “fun” like half of a Harley engine.

I understand the need to build the brand line/image and that’s the reason why it’s a 390 and not a 350 but too bad they didn’t go up to 400cc, it’s the limit in france for your experience to count towards reducing your insurance.
5 years of riding this = same insurance price 5 years laters, anything >400cc for 5 years = half price at a minimum. They just lost all but the richest new riders here.

With that beeing said, i like it quite a bit.
And if the 125 is any indication, it will sound really good with the akrapovic “silencer” installed.

Um that’s the wrong video for this..

Um, holy balls. It is coming to South Africa, and possibly priced below US$5700!

fare thee well ER-6n, you have served me well.
