Under Construction

Dailies -

Right now, we’re updating HFL to a new site. Looks like it’s going to be a little bit more of a process than we thought, bear with us as appearance and functionality are less than optimal. Right now, you’re seeing a mix of old and new and comment functionality is impaired. We apologize if you’re unable to login to make a comment or if that comment mysteriously disappears. We’ll be back to normal shortly and, as always, appreciate your contributions.

    oh no, it’s happening…..

  • Porter

Migrate > test > flip switch. In that order.

    • Toby

      ^^ This.

    • protomech

“I don’t always test my code, but when I do, I do so in production.”

HFL is .. the most interesting website in the world.

    • aristurtle

As one Mr. O’Reilly once said, “We’ll do it live! Fuck it! We’re doing it live!”

      • mb

        and again, THIS ^

  • http://slum.net cdeforrest

Whew, at least it’s November again. October sucked.

  • smoke4ndmears

The new HFL. Brought to you by LIPA.

Can we get some shots of that Kwak Z1 concept at EICMA? Pretty please?

    • http://rideapart.com Wes Siler

I don’t believe Kawasaki itself brought any Z1 weirdness to EICMA. Do you have a link for the bike you’re talking about?

    • lowslydr

Very cool, but I wonder how well a rear-mounted rad would work in real life. They must typically be in the front for a reason, or am I mistaken?

      • http://rideapart.com Wes Siler

Plenty of race bikes and exotics have used em. Not great for sitting still, but effective at speed. Leads to some seriously complicated plumbing, so surprised to see one on a clean custom like that.

      • Mitch

Benelli Tornado’s rear fans rank amongst the most gonzo of motorcycle accoutrements.

        • NewOldSchool

There’s a guy with a Silver and Green one that shows up to the Irvine Cars and Coffee all the time. It looks like it has little jet turbines in the tail!

      • rohorn

        Britten V1000 (racer)
        RADD/Parker RATZ (racer)
        Tul-aris (racer)

        Radiators elsewhere:
Harley Nova (abandoned V2/4/6 line of bikes)
        JT’s latest project

That Kawi is hot, hot hot.

Please tell me that the rotation of top stories at the top of the page is just an artifact of the update process, and not something you’re intending to keep permanently. Otherwise, it’s just an intense waste of MY CPU cycles. So much for keeping a tab open on HFL.

    • http://www.ninja250blog.com R.Sallee (Ninja 250)

Hiding and displaying divs should have virtually zero impact on your CPU. It’s not Flash.

      • wwalkersd

It’s still ugly. At least in Safari, the pictures keep overlapping the text. And it’s freaking annoying for a regular reader. It’s useless, gratuitous animation.

        • http://rideapart.com Wes Siler

Again, all that is being fixed.

  • Aaron

Ahhh man, now I might have to work, instead of checking out the site all day.

    • http://rideapart.com Wes Siler

We’ll have it fixed and catch up with content first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks for being patient.

      • Adrian_B

Ya. Patience is a virtue worth cultivating.

      • atgatthd

        hope it gets fixed soon

  • http://www.muthalovin.com the_doctor

    What fresh HFL is this?!

  • Holden and Annette

Slow the rotator down, enough so people can read the teases.

    • Bronson

Or just get rid of it. The layout you had before, although simple, worked.

      • atgatthd

Not worried about resources being used, but that “gratuitous animation” as referred to by wwalkersd is switching way too fast. I can appreciate the amount of time it takes to fix all these bugs, but just as I decide I want to click to read more… it’s torn away from me and I’m irritated trying to click that tiny selection bubble or waiting for the story i want to cycle back again… fail

  • http://cynic13th.livejournal.com/ cynic

Is anyone else bugged by the search bar hanging out way to the left…

It’s probably just me, but it looks unfinished.

    • http://rideapart.com Wes Siler

Again, all that is being fixed…

  • BillW

Oh, goody. All the old comments have disappeared, and now we’re on Disqus. Actually, it’s an improvement, since Disqus will notify you of replies. But I bemoan the loss of all the old comments.

signed, the HFL poster formerly known as wwalkersd

    • http://RideApart.com/ Wes Siler

And again, all that’s being worked on. All historic comments will reappear, but it might be 24 hours before they do, there’s so damn many of them.

      • BillW

Sorry, Wes. I’m just being an impatient, whiny-ass old man. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

  • nightscout13

Totally fine, the fact that you added Disqus, just made this site my top 10 daily.

  • lolwut

Any chance the site will stop looking screwy in Chrome anytime soon?

    • http://RideApart.com/ Wes Siler

It should be working fine now. There’s some visual tweaks that are still being done and a little back end functionality stuff, but the latter shouldn’t affect you. If problems are persisting, you may have a cached version that’s out of date, try clearing your cache.

  • Robbo B

Great to see the new site, all is working better since I deleted the cache on Chrome. Any chance you can make it so that when I am viewing a gallery, I can use my keyboard arrows to flick through the photos? I hate having to use the touchpad for my mouse to try and find the little arrows each side of the gallery, Thanks!

Can you guys put the social links inside the posts instead of having a ton of them on the front page?
