While KTM et al show up with massive, massively expensive support trucks and entire teams of technicians spend most of the year prepping for the Dakar, tiny, independent efforts might employ a single mechanic in a tiny team working part time out of passion. Here’s a really interesting look into the preparations of Brit Simon Pavey’s team as they struggle to balance full-time jobs and night time rally prep.

Pavey’s definitely an Aussie, so I doubt he’d thank you for the British label.

He does have a british passport however and bases himself out of the UK so I can understand the confusion. It’s not much different to how every successful Kiwi suddenly becomes an Aussie in the Australian media.

He was in Charlie Boorman’s Race To Dakar Documentary if you want to see him in action during a Dakar race. I think it was during one of the last years it was run in it’s original iteration.
