How To Get Started Riding Dirt Bikes

How To -

Following their first dirt bike school last year, Jamie and Nik take their wives to the desert on small-capacity dirt bikes. It’s the next step of the girl’s gradual evolution into becoming skilled riders.

Apparently the way to learn to ride dirt bikes is to get married to somebody that has access to bikes from the marketing departments from Suzuki and Kawasaki. Looks like they had a great time.

Or watch the Internet ads. I picked up a 2-year old but brand new Yamaha TW200 for under $3K – at that price I can afford to break it while learning.

Yup. If you want, you can ride motorcycles really cheaply (I am basically Scrooge McDuck). It’s when you start wanting newish stuff and are unwilling to turn a wrench / make out with someone who has access to press bikes that it gets expensive.

I don’t have a bike like this or a truck/trailer to haul one of these in. Do you think something like a CRF250L is a reasonable alternative? It’s almost as affordable and I could ride it to a place like this. I’m having a hard time deciding on a motorcycle entry point.

I want to know more about the trailer hitch set-up and the top rack/basket on the Mini Countryman. I am starting to look for something for my wife’s Countryman for a few trips.

    BTW, good job ladies!

Also, the great thing about those bikes used in the video, is there are tons of small displacement mini motard and flat track race groups for continuing fun with those machines.

The great thing about the Mini Countryman is that you can have it with a manual transmission and AWD. I don’t know of any other compact “SUV” that you can get that combination. The Jeep Wrangler can be had with 4×4 and a manual, but I don’t really consider that to be in the same class.
