The most exciting new bike of 2014? The 2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R makes 180 bhp and 106 lb.-ft. of torque from its 1,301cc V-twin. Here’s all that power captured in motion. Insane.

2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Video:

As an interesting aside, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer three years ago called for, “Aggressive riding styles, and any depiction of unsafe behavior” to be banned from motorcycled advertising. “Motorcycle Manufacturers can play a significant role in improving road safety through communication and marketing,” he stated in 2010. Do you think this ad represents “aggressive riding styles and unsafe behavior?”

Does it represent “aggressive ride styles and unsafe behavior.” Sure it does! This might be a case of calling for your piers to do one thing while you’re planning to clearly do another. Anyway, having a bike with 180 bhp would result in riders doing these things anyway.

I need this more than I’ve ever needed anything in my entire life.

Drifts, back-ins, power slides, burnouts, wheelies, and *gasp* passing a car on the road…
When was the last time you saw any other manufacturer put any of that great fun in an ad? Usually its stale orbit cam shots of the bike going straight, on a closed race track, with a disclaimer.

    Bless KTM.

    OMG, great-working ad!

  • VagrantCoyote

Anything after pressing the ignition probably represents “unsafe behaviour” on this beast. Love it.

Maybe this is as safe as it is possible to ride this bike.

The only thing missing was the casket and procession….

  • Von

ridiculous. i wish my car had 180hp, ha!

There’s a difference between inspiration and aspiration. Even though the vast majority of folks buying this bike (or any bike for that matter) will NEVER ride it in this manner, at least you’ll FEEL like you are or could if you wanted to or were talented enough to. Car manufacturers have been doing this for years and nobody so much as blinks.

Best motorcycle ad I’ve ever seen, my hat is off to you KTM. Job well done.

    I’ll be in my bunk.

One day I will be manly enough to wield this death machine. I swear it.

I actually put off watching the first video for a long while…just because I didn’t want to get too excited.

Well the other day I watched it and ever since…..that noise…..it haunts my dreams.

I’m thoroughly confused, I would kill myself on this thing…but I’m almost ok with it.

When the Ducati Monster gets the Hyperstradas engine do you think it’ll end up being in the same league as the current top dog nakeds?

  • AHA

Praise be! We are not worthy. Loving this.

Can’t wait for the group test- Monster 1198, Z1000, BMW s1000rr naked & Tuono V4.

“Aggressive riding styles and unsafe behavior” are simply a matter of the riders skill level and the opinion of those viewing. If I were riding in that style it would be unsafe behavior because at my current skill level I would probably crash. Now the real problem is the people who do not know how to estimate their own skill level and think it is a lot higher than it is.

It makes me wish there was a KTM dealer closer to my home. I’d be happy with the 690, even the 390. KTM makes some incredible and desirable motorcycles.
