The family of late desert racer Kurt Caselli cooperated with Red Tide Pictures to create “Caselli 66,” a tribute documentary to the legendary rider who died Nov. 13 while leading in the 2013 Baja 1000.
The 30-year-old Caselli had won three championships in the World Off Road Championship Series, three AMA National Hare and Hound National championships, the 2013 Desafio Ruta 40 Rally in Argentina, two stages of the 2013 Dakar Rally, multiple International Six Days Enduro medals, and was named the 2007 AMA Sportsman of the Year. Friends and team members marvel at Caselli’s preternatural bike control, his infectious good humor and his determination to succeed in the documentary, which will be released on the site of Caselli’s foundation,KurtCaselli.com and on Apple iTunes on April 29. Proceeds go to the foundation, which promotes safety in off-road racing.
Investigators concluded that Caselli died of head injuries that resulted from a crash caused by his collision with an animal on the course.
