AGV Horizon helmet model combines the benefits produced through AGV’s extensive racing R&D with the amenity of features demanded by street riders.

Proclaimed by AGV as the company’s most versatile helmet model available, the Horizon is an excellent choice for riders looking for a lid that excels in comfort, protection and convenience. The shell of the Horizon is constructed with a combination of carbon fiber and fiberglass materials producing an “intermediate oval” shape appropriate for most head profiles. The interior padding of the helmet is comprised of a removable micro-fiber lining making cleaning and minor sizing adjustments quick and simple. In order the help with ventilation, the top of the lining has two cut out strips along the upper left and right of the rider’s head creating a bit of an awkward feel initially but definitely accomplishing the cooling goal on hot days with airflow. Adding to the comfort department, the areas of lining around the rider’s ears are cut out eliminating any pressure or irritation of the ears while not sacrificing wind noise. These cut outs also provide an area for communication devices to be easily installed without having to modify the lining. Additionally, the lower portion of the padding curves around the rider’s jaw and chin creating a very secure fit and comfortable overall experience.

Externally, the helmet has an array of functional venting systems that can be felt at speed. The elongated chin bar (characteristic of AGV helmets) provides not only increased chin and jaw protection, but also noticeably reduces wind noise inside of the helmet when compared to other brands. Finally, the paint and graphic options offered on the Horizon range from flat black or white to more aggressive racing schemes giving riders a medley of aesthetic options.

A unique feature of the Horizon is the retractable, internal sun visor that can be lowered and raised with the throw of a light lever located on the left side of the exterior of the helmet next to the main visor pivot point. This lever action can take some getting used to when attempting to operate blind, with gloves on and riding down the road but is quite convenient when acclimated. However, when the internal visor is not in use, it can become very annoying as it bounces around with even the slightest uneven road surface causing the bottom edge of the visor to flutter around in the rider’s vision. Despite these minor inconveniences, the main drawback of these internal visor designs is the fact that the interior EPS foaming of the helmet is cut away to make room for the visor to retract up into the shell. This has been known to create a “weak” point in the helmet as an impact in this area is less able to dissipate with the increased rigidity of the visor and reduced absorption of the thinner foam section. However, AGV has achieved top safety awards with ALL of its models including the Horizon meeting and exceeding safety standards in the US and Europe so this internal sun visor issue should not be a large area of concern.
