While running test laps aboard the Suzuki XR14 at Daytona, Barry Sheene had just reached 170mph on the embankment when his machine suffered a massive failure. The rear tire locked and the bike catapulted Sheene, turning him into a lump of shredded bloody leathers and broken bones lying in the middle of the track. At the time, his career was assumed to be finished. Naturally, he went on the win the World Championship the following year.

Fortunately for us, a documentary crew was there to film not only the crash, but also Sheene's retelling of the event after he was freshly laid up in traction. Click through for some of the best storytelling ever.
