Be Seen - Brake Free Helmet-Mount LED Brake Light

The San Jose, Calif., start-up Brake Free is seeking crowdfunding for the “first autonomous brake light.” The company has reached $10,000 of its $50K goal, with a month to go on Indiegogo.com. “Brake Free is an ultra bright smart LED brake light that instantly improves a motorcycle's visibility. It mounts on the back of the helmet you already own and its sensors work automatically to let others know whenever you slow down--braking, engine braking, or downshifting. No need for a wired installation or connected apps. Brake Free is simply a smarter way to be seen.”

Attached to the helmet by neodymium magnets, the unit’s LED lights are wirelessly synced to the bike’s brake light using accelerometer and gyroscope sensors. The quicker a rider decelerates, the brighter the lights flash. The rechargeable battery is good for 8 - 10 hours, and recharges in two hours via micro-USB port. Extra helmet mounts allow the unit to be swapped between helmets. The Brake Free light weighs six ounces and is weather resistant.
