This is the headstock from the Ducati Desmosedici GP9, the bike will be campaigned in MotoGP next year, but is currently undergoing high profile testing. As we told you last month, Ducati has ditched the trellis frame for one made from carbon fiber, but we still can’t be certain whether or not it’s an over-the-top monocoque design, or an around-the-sides spar-style frame. Regardless, it represents a huge departure for Ducati, which has made steel trellis frames an iconic part of their bikes. Early tests look promising, suggesting that the engineers have found a way to avoid the chattering that plagued the last carbon-framed  top-level GP bike, the Cagiva GP500, as a result of its too-stiff chassis.
