A brand new, unused 1978 Ducati 900 NCR, similar to the one raced to victory by the legendary Mike Hailwood that same year in the Isle of Man TT, will come under the auctioneer’s hammer in Las Vegas in January.
If you’re a big Ducati fan you might want to start saving up now, as this NCR will be one of 25 significant Ducati racing motorcycles that will be lined-up for sale at the annual Bonhams Motorcycle Auction, held at Bally’s Hotel Casino, in Las Vegas on January 9, 2014.
These bikes are all part of the famous Silverman Collection and comprise significant Ducati motorcycles from the 1970s and 1980s. Some have race history while there are others, like the NCR, have never been used.
All 25 bikes are predominantly competition models with the earliest being a 1973 750SS Imola Short Stroke. A version of this bike won the 1972 Imola grand Prix with Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari as factory riders taking first and second place respectively.
There is also a 1974 750 Green Frame Round Case – which was never sold in the U.S. – and a brand new, unused, 1978 Ducati NCR900 similar to the version that the legendary Mike Hailwood rode to victory in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy that year.
From the 1980s Grand Prix motorcycle racing world there is a brace of factory-prepared 1984 750SS TT1s, still in original condition. The first has some real provenance, according to Bonhams, and comes with a fully documented race history. There is also a second TT1, but there are no details as yet if this was a factory run bike.
The 25 Silverman Collection Ducati motorcycles that will come under the auctioneer’s hammer include the following: Desmosidici - plain fairing; Desmosidici- Bayliss fairing; 1986 750 F1 Montjuich; 1986 750 F1 Montjuich; 1986 750 F1 Montjuich; 1987 750 Laguna Seca; 1981 TT2; 1981 TT2, 1978 NCR; 1973 750SS Green Frame; 1973 Short Stroke; 900SS Imola; 1971 750 GT; 1971 750 GT; three 750 F1 Desmo; TT1; 851 Tricolore; 851 Lucchinelli race replica; 851 SP3 street; TT1 raced by Pablo Real; 1973 Sport Desmo 750; 750F1A Desmo
