Joey Dunlop Documentary Well Worth A Watch

2013's “Joey- The Man Who Conquered The TT” is now available to watch free online.

A 2013 documentary about TT legend Joey Dunlop entitled “Joey- The Man Who Conquered The TT” – Not to be confused with the 2014 documentary “Road” which was also about the Dunlop clan and was narrated by Liam Neeson – is now available to watch for free online.

The film provides both an in-depth look into the life of the Northern Irishman, his monumentally successful road-racing career, and his personal life off the bike. Throughout the film, various people from Dunlop's life share their experiences and stories about Joey which provides an intimate portrait of the racer. Obviously there’s no one better to ask than the people who were there, and that’s exactly what the film maker has done in this short feature length documentary.

Unlike some motorcycle racing documentaries that exist, “Joey” can – much like 1971's wildly popular "On Any Sunday" – be enjoyed by audiences who have no interest in motorsport. The movie explains what the TT is and introduces the different characters in a digestible way that’s easy to follow. It can be hard to convey exactly how motorcycle racers touch the lives of so many people they’ve never met, but this documentary does a damn fine job of conveying these ideas. By the time the credits roll, the audience fully comprehends why thousands of people attended Joey Dunlops funeral in 2002.

"Joey- The Man Who Conquered The TT" can conveniently be viewed in its entirety on YouTube. With a running time of only an hour you don’t have much of an excuse not to watch this, as even the most die-hard TT fan is guaranteed to learn a few new things about the legend that was William Joseph Dunlop from Ballymoney.
