Paolo Timoni out at Piaggio?

Piaggio Group Americas is neither denying or confirming rumors which emerged this afternoon that President and CEO Paolo Timoni is leaving the company. Paolo’s the guy on the left in this image, dating from an appearance I made alongside him on Fox back in 2009.

Update: it's official.

Update (cont'd), Piaggio says:

"Piaggio Group Americas (PGA) announces a change in executive leadership with the departure of Paolo Timoni as president and CEO. After six years in this role, Timoni has stepped down to pursue other professional interests. The corporate responsibility of PGA has been appointed to Miguel Martinez, former general manager of Piaggio Spain, effective immediately."

Timoni has been a leader in promoting the practical, responsible side of motorcycling with campaigns focussed on fuel economy, environmental friendliness and cheap running costs. He’s also tackled issues like parking, pushing for cut-rate prices for scooters in Manhattan parking garages.

Joining Piaggio Group Americas in 2005, Timoni increased the brand’s share of the scooter market from 18.5 percent to 30.3 percent in 2009. Before coming to Piaggio, Timoni was a management consultant specializing in telecommunications and technology.

In response to our queries, Piaggio simply stated, “We have nothing to announce at this time.”
