Rossi_F1.jpgTo celebrate his ninth world championship, Ferrari let Valentino Rossi have a go in the F2008 Formula One car at Mugello. The result? A 1:21.9 time, just tenths of a second off Kimi Raikkonen's outright lap record of 1:21.67, set in the same car.

Does this mean we'll lose Rossi to four wheels? Not likely. At 30,
Rossi would be a decade older than the sport's rookies and the
corporate environment surrounding Formula One would likely be a turnoff
to a rider who famously eschewed champion Honda in favor of having fun
at Yamaha.

"We tried different set ups and he improved a lot: this means that the
driver learns quickly and has room for improvement," said Luca
Baldisserri, the director of Ferrari's motorsport operations.
