The 1098R has always displaced 1198.4cc, so changing its name to the Ducati 1198R for 2010 is both predictable and practical, if still .4cc off. The homologation special that enables Ducati to win SBK races, it had a funny name previously to serve as a halo bike for the 1098 range. Now that Ducati's run of the mill superbikes are called 1198s and displace the same capacity, it can wear the technically accurate badge. The only changes over last year's 1098R Troy Bayliss LE are the awful Corse paint and the addition of an aluminum gas tank that saves 1kg and adds .66 gallons to the capacity.
