Faulty electrical issues prompt Triumph Motorcycles America to recall more than 1,000 machines from the 2018 Street Triple range

Triumph is experiencing a stellar couple of years, bucking the general downward industry trend and setting various sales records in the process. Unfortunately for the iconic British marque, it’s just experienced a relatively minor bump in the road with the announcement of a product recall on its 2018 Street Triple range after problems were identified with some electrical components.

MORE RECALL STUFF: Zero recalls 2012 models over battery issue

The recall reportedly stems from an issue where moisture can get into the handlebar-mounted combination switch on the left-hand side. This can result in turn signal and headlight switches failing or malfunctioning—possibly increasing the risk of a crash if the defect occurs at the wrong time. Triumph is anticipating the recall will affect approximately 1,250 units of its 2018 Street Triple R, Street Triple S, Street Triple RS, and Street Triple LRH.

This isn't the first recall Triumph America has issued this year. Back in February, the company recalled around 3,000 Truxton and Thruxton R models due to stalling caused by wonky engine management software. That problem, like this one, was a relatively easy fix that the company dealt with quickly.

As per usual, Triumph will be reaching out to owners of the affected bikes who will be invited to bring their Street triple models into a local authorized Triumph dealership where the handlebar switch will be replaced for free.

This recall’s NHTSA Campaign Number is 18V302000.
