This BMW R 1300 GS Comes In A Special Edition With All The Bells And Whistles. But There's A Catch
If you live in the Netherlands, you're in luck!
Let's be real: When some motorcycle manufacturers release a special edition, it's only paint and graphics. Now, clearly, we all like things that we find visually appealing, so I'm in no way saying that aesthetics don't matter.
However, I'm also the kind of person where, if someone's going to slap a surcharge on something, I want some substance along with my pretties. You know?
If you're a Dutch BMW fan, and you have BMW R 1300 GS money in the first place, there's some good news for you. BMW is releasing the Aurum Edition of its R 1300 GS and GS Adventure exclusively in the Netherlands, and although aesthetic touches including a bunch of gold accents (hence the 'aurum,' which is derived from the Latin word for 'gold') and an Alcantara saddle are part of it, the Motorrad also kind of went Huntrix ham on the accessories packages with this one.
Can't choose between the Touring package, the Dynamic package, or the Innovation package? Porque no los tres, BMW probably said (only in German)? There will be exactly 100 each of the R 1300 GS and R 1300 GSA Aurum Editions released in the Netherlands, and each will come with its own "XX of 100" numbered badge on the handlebars. The base R 1300 GS that the Aurums are based on, incidentally, is the very popular Triple Black colorway.
If that's not enough substance to get excited about, then here are the details for each of these special Dutch GS machines.
The BMW R 1300 GS Aurum Edition, in addition to getting the factory accessories packages mentioned above, also gets the adaptive ride height and automatic shift assist (ASA), as well as a heated seat, anti-theft alarm, gold spoked wheels, and top case rack. Also, the Option 719 brake and shift levers, a tinted windscreen, and BMW's three-piece Vario luggage come equipped from the factory on this bike. Total cost: € 34,950, which works out to about US $40,601 at the time of writing.
If you'd rather go for the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure Aurum Edition, you'll still get all three accessories packages mentioned above. You'll also get the adaptive ride height and ASA features, as well as an anti-theft alarm and top rack. Gold accents, including gold spoked wheels, abound. But you also get blacked out engine protectors (crankcase and valve cover), which are integrated into the blacked-out crash bars. A tinted windscreen and a three-piece aluminum hard luggage set are also included on the GSA only. What's the price? This will set you back a cool € 36,950, which works out to about US $42,925.
