Do You Want To Try Suzuki's Delicious Curries? Fly This International Airline ASAP

I've tried all four Suzuki curries, and enjoyed them all. And JAL already has excellent service, so this can only be a win.

As a former culinary professional and longtime Suzuki enthusiast, it's probably not even a little bit surprising that when I first found out about Suzuki's instant curry line, I just couldn't help myself. Did my teachers think that this is how one of their students would use their Japanese language classes years down the line? Probably not, but as a language nerd, I'm just happy whenever it comes in handy. Knowledge = delicious, delicious power.

After placing my order and waiting for my curry to come in, I was absolutely thrilled the day I took it out of its box. Over the course of several days, I worked my way through each of them, giving them my full consideration. Sure, they're instant packets of food that can easily be cooked sous vide on your stovetop, or sliced open and heated up in your microwave. But just like commuter bikes are the backbone of many an everyday existence around the world, so too are easy, ready-to-eat foods like this.

I, for one, happen to think that both should be delicious and fun. Spicy little commuter bike, spicy little curry, spicy little smile on your face while you enjoy both. Not to get too far into the weeds, but I'm kind of in the Nigella camp as far as taking your pleasures in life where you can.

So when I heard that Japan Airlines, one of Japan's biggest international air carriers, has just added Suzuki's vegetarian curries to its in-flight menu, I may have audibly squeaked. Two great tastes that taste great together? I was clearly going to be a fan. They already had great food, but adding Suzuki curries as an option in the Economy cabin just sweetens the pot, in my opinion.

There's an air travel story I've told lots of people in person, and which I'll tell you here and now that exemplifies why I hold Japan Airlines in particularly high regard. One where it could easily have been a nightmare if it had gone differently, but because JAL truly went above and beyond the call of duty, it instead went on to be one of my go-to Good Stories for years after the fact.

I was on a flight with a layover in Tokyo, on Japan Airlines. Several hours (and movies, and snacks) into the flight, as we got closer to Tokyo, there was an announcement from the flight crew. It seemed there was a medical emergency on board, and that it was decided we would be rerouted to Sapporo to land, so a medical team could take the affected passenger and get them the urgent care they needed.

We were told that we'd be on the ground for approximately an hour, so we could deplane that passenger and also refuel since we'd diverted from our planned course. During that time, we were told that we could not leave the plane, but we were provided with extra snacks and able to get up and move around. Of course, this meant that many of us with connecting flights were most likely going to miss them, but we were told that JAL was working to rebook us and rectify the situation, which they were very sorry for.

With most other airlines I've flown, that's probably where it would have ended. Not JAL, though. As we got back into the air to fly to Tokyo, those of us with connecting flights were told that JAL staff would be waiting for us on the jetway to give us our rebooked connecting flight boarding passes and direct us where we needed to go to get to our next gates.

After we landed, not only did JAL's team apologetically meet us with those boarding passes and directions to our next gate; in some cases, they actually held the rebooked flights as we ran to catch them. I can't tell you how many of us had this happen, but I can tell you that it happened for me. I tore across Narita as quickly as I could, and they held that flight for me so I didn't miss it.

That's not something I ever expected to happen in the 2020s, and certainly not something I expect to ever happen again. But I was incredibly grateful that it did, and genuinely could not believe this airline went that far out of its way to be helpful.

What do you think?

Anyway, since I've already told you how delicious I found Suzuki's curries, what you need to know now is that while Japan Airlines was initially putting Suzuki's curries on flights departing from Narita Airport to both Delhi and Bengaluru beginning in June 2026, it's now expanding this option to flights outside of India as well.

Starting in September 2026, Suzuki curries have become available to order in Economy Class on flights from Narita to other international destinations flown by JAL. Truly, two great tastes that taste great together, I feel. If you happen to be flying through Narita Airport anytime soon, it's worth your consideration.
