Kawasaki Has a Bigger, Badder Off-Road Motorcycle Coming Soon

Hello, EICMA debut, is that you?

I really enjoyed my time with the 2026 Kawasaki KLE500. It's a solid entry-level adventure motorcycle that will also give folks like myself, those who've spent a lot of time on dirt, a good time, too. I would change a few things, however, which I said in both my review and in my follow-up article talking about my perfect KLE. I think I called it the KLE500 R.

But maybe I spoke too soon?

In the last few days, we've seen reports that Kawasaki was preparing to launch a larger-displacement KLE, likely one powered by the brand's 650 engine, and featuring a bunch of changes that I may have advocated for to really bring the model up to par with a lot of other off-roaders. Well, now Kawasaki itself is teasing something that sure as hell looks like a bigger, badder, more beefy KLE adventure bike. And if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on it debuting at this year's EICMA show, which is just a scant few weeks away.

Buckle up, folks.

Now, a number of commenters have posed the question of whether this is just an updated KLE500 or something along the lines of an upgraded KLE500 with more hardcore chops. I mean, BMW and KTM do it with each company's own off-roaders. Why not Kawasaki as well? And that certainly would make a lot of sense, as it cuts down on big changes to the platform, reduces overhead, and can spur more buyers for the KLE500. Basically, those commenters are questioning whether my KLE R is coming, and I'd be sooooo down for that.

But the more I watch this teaser, the more I'm leaning toward this teasing something with an engine that's larger than the KLE500. There are two shots in particular that make me wonder, and that's the front spoked wheel and what appear to be twin-disc brakes, and the engine shot itself, as it doesn't quite look like the KLE500, but rather Kawasaki's 650 engine cover. Granted, I could be very wrong, but a number of other outlets also seem to think that a big-engined KLE and not just some hardcore KLE500 R.

We all, however, could be talking out our butts.

What do you think?

Luckily (!) we likely don't have to wait a lot longer to find out what's coming, as EICMA is only two weeks away, and Kawasaki tends to launch things in short order after they begin teasing something. So stay tuned, cross your fingers, and who's ready for a middleweight Kawasaki adventurer?

I am.
